Dusty does it again!!

for those of you with any doubt, Dusty is Mellow Mushrooms National Treasure. The man salvages more pieces and parts than "This Old House", and brews things that look like they were meant to go together. He took all these seperate elements That I drew and put this design together for our pal Dave in Decatur ( "in Decatur" is not actually his last name, but I've introduced him more times that way than his real name). He's the unsung hero of shroomdom!!

Tinkering with a design.........

just didn't seem finished, so I figured I should border it up. Added a framing color as well. Probably will do so more to it later.

Mel ROCKS.....

well, ROCK climbs........Sketchbook piece. hope you guys dig him.........

Tabitha shirt design

Tabitha gets drafted into posing all the time. She was gracious enough to pose for this shirt design, tho protesting her hair the whole time.

Columbus GA backdrop coming together.......

It's pretty far back, so you can't tell that this beast is 7 feet tall!! this is the base colors, I'll start "space-ifying" it now....

My G.I Joe collecting on PBS......

Everybody's got a monkey on their back. Mine is a 12" articulated action figure that changed the entire toy industry. When I was a kid out in the rural outback that was Possum Kingdom SC, you had fun where ya made it. That meant many a joe was lost in the creeks leading up to the French Broad river. Years later I stumbled across 'em in my travels, and my old pal joined our ranks once again. Here's a little piece from wpba in Atlanta...........

As I was working on our Buddy Walts store graphics ( Mt. Pleasant SC, near Charleston) I stumbled across a wizard piece I had forgotten about. It's a very mellow graphic..........

Drink 'n Draw flyer with Type in place

The great albino cow of Ft.worth

well, this will be my first excursion into bovine art, but I'm looking forward to turning this into a "Psychedelic Elsie". Kim say's "go crazy" on it.....:)

"be the ball Danny" friday "Mel Sketchbook" piece

there are a few people who ultra embody the soul of Mellow Mushroom, and our pal brad over in the commisary is one of 'em. Whenever a problem comes up where being zen is the answer, you can always count on a hardy "BE THE BALL DANNY" from Brad.

There's a lot about life in general that CADDYSHACK can teach us all:)

Chattanooga's flushroom directional (rough sketch2)

Decatur Drink'n Draw poster design

An image for our pal Dave in Decatur to gander at.

The Mel sketchbooks 1

Part of what I hope to accomplish with the blog is letting everybody in on the process of the art, as much as the finished product.
Yesterday Tanya came by the office inquiring about "THE LAUNCH" for one of the stores, and asked if we could add more charecters to it. "Of course" sez I. My mindset this morning was helping tell the story of "THE LAUNCH" by capturing a single moment and letting it convey the totality of what has just occured. Mel and Dude will be on a small hill looking up at the ascending mushroom structure. He's got a happy look on his face because he and dude did something to help facilitate this joyful ascension. Dude is packing some kind of crystals away in his bag, and mel is tapping his shoulder to check out the blastoff. He's basically saying "Don't get so caught up in the mundane that you miss the spectacular!!" These guys will be VERY small in the painting, but big in getting the story across. Mel and Dude are explorers of their psychedelic world, where the inccredible happens every day. They just want to be a witness to these amazing things.

I think we all do.

OLD SCHOOL DRAG RACE SHIRT

Back in my Possum Kingdom days, the Starlight dragstrip was the only place for some fast paced ear shattering fun. Back then, every po dunk drag team wanted a shirt that looked like "Car-tooons" magazine. This one kinda takes me back there......

muscle car fantasy piece

our good friend Jason asked if we had ever done a muscle car design, to which we created this VERY ROUGH layout idea......

MANGA dude

in the movie of Mel and Dude in my mind, they race across genre's like they race across landscapes. This one is a load of fun, and leads to other experiments. By the way, The Japanese translates to "cool mushroom" :)

ALICE shirt that never was..........

I've long advocated using the original Sir John Tennial "Alice in Wonderland" artwork on a line of shirts. It's public domain, and we are the right place for that art.

Dust off your ZOOT SUIT Dude!!

a little number for the ol' T-shirt hopper.........

This ol' paintin'.......

I occasionally go to the best thrift store in the ATL and peruse the flotsum and jetsum of modern america......and occasionally turn up diamonds in the rough!! I picked this canvas oil painting up for 2 bucks. Now granted this isn't my asthetic but it can be re-built. We can make better, faster,stronger.......or at least have some mushrooms in it. So this is the before painting, we'll post the after when we can "SHROOMIFY" it.
